pintor naif ou primitivista como muitos dizem, J. ALTAIR (João Altair de Barros) como era conhecido no mundo artístico, nasceu em 13 de agosto de 1934 e faleceu em 15 de fevereiro de 2013 em Porto Alegre. Afro-brasileiro nato, filho de Bará, Babalorixá da nação Yjexá (Ijexá é uma nação africana formada pelos escravos vindos de Ilesa na Nigéria, concentrada nas religiões Batuque e Candomblé.tendo sua base em orumila-ifá, e seus metodos
adivinhatorios dos odú); também foi um dos fundadores da escola de samba Praiana, em Porto Alegre. Leonino, tem em seus trabalhos a influência direta da religião de matriz africana (Yorubá).
Começou a pintar após um curso com o pintor italiano Vicente Perllasca, ainda na década de 50 e militou em São Paulo nas décadas de 60 e 70 em vários movimentos de artes plásticas, realizando exposições de seus trabalhos no Paço das Artes, na Praça da Republica, na Praça Roosevelt, no Embú das Artes e nos Santeiros Imaginários - SEC/ SP.
Candidato a vereador pelo MDB (antiga sigla do PMDB) na década de 70, J. ALTAIR fez planos e promessas para categoria artística, caso fosse eleito. Em Porto Alegre, com diversas exposições em seu currículo, foi o primeiro artista naif, a levar ao Museu de Arte do Rio Grande do Sul, a provocação e inquietude na primeira mostra com temática popular intitulada "Ingênuos e Primitivos Gaúchos", que destacou no folclore e em algumas naturezas mortas, elementos da religiosidade que sempre caracterizou seu trabalho, J. ALTAIR experimentou no acrílico sobre tela, sem que sua pintura perdesse intensidade, o reforço que considerou seu trabalho naif mais do que simplesmente, ingênuo.
Desde muito tempo, desenvolveu o primitivo de forma original através de cores vivas, criando um mundo místico originado pela cultura afro-brasileira. Ganhou destaque ao realizar exposição individual na Galeria Ítalo-Belga em 1972 e na década de 90, expôs no Copacabana Palace Hotel e na Galeria Jean Jacques Urca, ambas, no Rio de Janeiro. Tem obras em diversos acervos nacionais e internacionais (como a Galeria Salomé em New Orleans; o Museu Internacional de Arte Naif, do RJ; e coleçoes com o artista uruguaio Carlos Paéz Vilaró em Punta Ballena no Uruguay); tem coleções particulares, no MARGS e no acervo da Prefeitura de Porto Alegre.

The naive or primitive painter like many say , J. Altair ( Altair João de Barros ) as it was known in the art world , was born on August 13, 1934 and died on February 15, 2013 in Porto Alegre . African -Brazilian born , son of Bara , the nation Babalorixá Yjexá ( Ijexá is an African nation formed by slaves from Ilesa in Nigeria , concentrated in religions and Batuque Candomblé.tendo based in Orumilá - Ifa, and their divinatory methods of ODU ) ; was also one of the founders of the samba school Praiana , in Porto Alegre . Leo , is in his work the direct influence of the religion of African origin ( Yoruba ) .
He began painting after a course with the Italian painter Vincent Perllasca , still in the 50s and militated in São Paulo in the 60s and 70s in various movements of fine arts , performing exhibitions of his works at the Palace of Arts in Republic Square in Roosevelt Square in Embu das Artes and saint makers Imagination - SEC / SP .
Candidate for Council MDB ( old acronym PMDB ) in the 70s , J. ALTAIR made plans and promises to artistic category , if elected . In Porto Alegre , with several exhibitions to his credit, was the first artist naif , to lead the Art Museum of Rio Grande do Sul , provocation and uneasiness in the first show with popular themes titled " Naive and Primitive Gauchos " , which highlighted the folklore and some still lifes , elements of religiosity that has always characterized his work , J. ALTAIR experienced in acrylic on canvas painting without his lost strength , the reinforcement that considered more than simply naive , naive his work .
Since a long time , developed the original primitive form through vivid, creating a mystical world originated by african - Brazilian culture .
